AI workflow automation
Turn a recurring hand-off into a defined process, with AI assistance, exception handling and human approval where it matters.
Understand the service
What this means in practice
AI workflow automation combines software rules with model-based tasks such as classifying a message, extracting a request or preparing a draft. The useful unit is a complete business process: an input arrives, the right information is gathered, someone owns the decision and the outcome is recorded. A clever prompt alone does not provide that operating process.
Choose a workflow with repeated inputs and a visible queue of work. Before introducing AI, check whether an ordinary form, rule or API connection would solve the problem more simply. Temrik can scope a bounded workflow assessment and an implementation proposal that identifies where AI adds value, what remains manual and how the result will be measured.
- Microsoft: approval workflows Human approval can be part of an automated process.
- NIST: AI Risk Management Framework A voluntary framework for managing AI risk.
A practical workflow example
A service request arrives by email. A proposed workflow extracts the requested job, checks for missing information and prepares a response for the coordinator. Unclear requests enter an exception queue. A person confirms the appointment; the system does not invent availability or commit the business to a price.
Proposed engagement
How we would approach the work
Map the real queue
Review representative requests, ownership, hand-offs and current handling time. Include awkward cases, duplicates and requests that should never proceed.
Set the action boundary
Separate read, draft, approve and execute steps. Decide who can authorise a change and what happens when that person is unavailable.
Test a small release
Run agreed examples against the existing process. Compare correction effort, missed exceptions and completion time before enabling a limited live scope.
Deliverables to agree in the scope
- A process map and prioritised automation scope.
- An approval and exception matrix, with a named workflow owner.
- An acceptance test set and operating handover plan.
Access, sample information and reviewer availability affect the plan. Any implementation, provider costs, support arrangements and acceptance criteria are agreed before work begins.
Limits worth understanding
- Automation cannot repair unclear ownership or missing source information.
- Model output can be wrong; provider outages, usage charges and connector limits need an operating plan.
Questions to bring to the first conversation
- Which recurring task has a measurable starting point?
- What is the most expensive mistake the workflow could make?
- Who will review exceptions after the pilot?
UK teams
Scope the work for your operating context.
For a UK service business, separate response preparation from commitments about appointment windows, pricing or contractual dates. Include bank-holiday coverage and the queue that staff will review at the start of the next working day.
